This is a debut. The first Mercedes-Benz Travego with the award-winning Active Brake Assist (ABA) safety assistant was handed over to the customer Glauch Reisen at the Mannheim bus and coach factory. The vehicle is a latest-generation Travego L. "We are particularly proud of being able to put this Travego already now on the road", says Henri Paccalin, Senior Export Sales Manager at Mercedes-Benz Bus and Coach unit, handing over the symbolic Travego key to Tobias Glauch, manager of Glauch Reisen GmbH & Co. KG. In the 2009 travel season the Travego L will be the exclusive representative of the ADAC’s "Travel Dreams in Gold".
This is the first time the Active Brake Assist system is used on a Mercedes-Benz coach. On Mercedes-Benz heavy trucks this exceptional system has been in use since 2006, having already been awarded the "Yellow Angel" by the German Automobile Association, the ADAC. In the event of acute danger of a rear-end collision with a slower vehicle travelling ahead, this active safety system, known as emergency brake assistant, intervenes by first emitting graded warnings, then making a full brake application if the driver does not heed the warnings and does not react. "Safety was the central point of our decision", confides Tobias Glauch. "In 2004, the ADAC voted us the best coach travel company in North-Rhine Westfalia, and we want to honour this distinction, in terms of safety, too."
