Thanks to leading-edge BlueTec® diesel technology based on SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction), nitrogen oxide emissions have been reduced by up to 30% while particulate emissions have been cut by up to 80%, compared to Euro III engines.
In the next stage of development, BlueTec® SCR diesel technology will even be able to comply with the strict Euro V emission standards with ease. Efficient exhaust gas aftertreatment means that engine modifications are no longer needed in order to meet the stringent emissions requirements, since Mercedes-Benz BlueTec® engines already have optimum performance characteristics. In contrast to many other solutions on the market, SCR is therefore not only extremely economical, it also clearly points the way ahead. This is why Mercedes-Benz, like most other European engine manufacturers, favours SCR diesel technology.
